Windows 10 Support End-of-Life And What You Can Do

What’s all this about?
In case you aren’t aware, Microsoft has announced that it will be ceasing support for Windows 10 products (outside of some expensive paid options) on October 14 2025 (this year). This means that you will not receive new features nor will you receive any security fixes.
Windows 10 will continue to work just like it did before so you won’t be left high and dry. For some people this may not seem like a big deal, however, it could leave you vulnerable to malicious software, bugs, and hackers.
What are your options?
The options leave a lot to be desired. While many will be able to upgrade to Windows 11 on their existing hardware. That’s if it’s compatible. If not, then you may need to take an alternate route. There are ways around the measures put in place by Microsoft that can get Windows 11 on “incompatible” systems. However, that may only work temporarily until a subsequent update reinforces the hardware compatibility requirements. This also leaves you well out of support with Microsoft in the event you run into issues.
Another option would be to leave your PC(s) as is and continue using Windows 10 as you always have. This is much less secure than the other options but it will likely be the route that many individuals and organizations will take due to technical or budgetary reasons. There are measure that can be taken to help make less insecure. Such as ensuring you have a firewall in place, blocking all ports on the firewall for incoming traffic, taking extra precautions when opening emails with attachments, ensuring your antivirus software is up to date and active, etc.
